Monday night I had the first glimpse of Broad Peak from Goro 2
For merely half a minute the clouds parted and all I could see was just the very top. It was a sight belonging rather to the sky than to the earth. Yesterday afternoon we set up our Base Camp at around 5000m, on a central moraine of the Godwin Austen Glacier, just close to the start of the climbing route. Again, the upper part of the mountain was not visible. This morning, getting out of my tent, I was faced by Broad Peak's whole sheer immensity and my jaw dropped. SHOSHIN.
